As in most of the municipalities of the Sabana de Bogotá, the main economic activities in Chia have historically been agriculture, floriculture and dairy farming. Floriculture still has a great importance in the economy of the municipality, but this has diversified considerably in the last decades and now the business activity is concentrated mainly in the service sector.10 There are also some industries, among which the production of dairy products, and some manufactures and crafts: painting, sculpture in stone and bronze, joinery, carpentry and wrought iron work.
The gastronomic offer, and the tourism associated with it, is a relevant sector of the economy (in the municipality there are bars and high-end restaurants such as "Andrés Carne de Res" and "El Humero"). Annually, in addition, a gastronomic festival organized by the city hall ("Saboriarte" 11) takes place in Chía, in which a large part of the main gastronomic establishments of the municipality participate. Chía also has a wide commercial and entertainment offer: there are several large shopping centers ("Chía Center", "Sabana Norte", "Plaza Mayor", "Fontanar" and "Bima") and a great offer of night entertainment: a series of nightclubs and restaurants open to the public at night, mainly on Pradilla Avenue and the Chía-Cota Variation.
